Is the Arrma Outcast 8s the Most Powerful Arrma RC Car Ever?

If you’re a fan of the Kraton but are looking for a tougher competitor with enhanced durability and handling, the Arrma Outcast 8S is definitely worth considering!

Recognized as one of the most powerful RC cars not just within Arrma’s lineup but across the entire RC world, the Outcast 8S stands out for its performance and design. It’s available in multiple versions, including 4S, 6S, and 8S—though keep in mind that as the battery size decreases, so does the overall scale of the vehicle. The 8S model is the largest and most powerful Outcast you can get your hands on.

Compared to the Kraton 8S—which serves as the foundation for this model—the Arrma Outcast 8S comes with several key upgrades that enhance its performance and durability. But is it worth the investment, especially given its premium price? How fast can it go? And do these upgrades truly make a difference?

We’ll dive into all these questions and more in the sections ahead. Let’s get started!

Arrma Outcast 8s Design

Arrma Outcast 8s Body

If you’re familiar with Arrma RC cars, the first thing you’ll notice about the Arrma Outcast 8S is its striking resemblance to the Arrma Infraction. From the skids and rear wings to the rear bars, nearly every detail looks familiar.

In many ways, the Outcast 8S feels like an enlarged version of the Infraction’s body, featuring some modifications and upgrades. And when I say “bigger,” I mean *really* big—this is a 1/5 scale RC car, making it even larger than the Kraton and Big Rock!

The Arrma Outcast 8S body is available exclusively in red, whereas other versions, such as the Arrma Outcast 6S, 4S, and even the EXB (which comes without electronics), offer additional color options like blue and black.

The Front

The front of the Arrma Outcast 8S shares a striking resemblance to the Infraction, particularly in the headlights, which feature the same round design. Beneath the headlights, there is a small bumper integrated into the body itself (not to be confused with the black bumper that is part of the chassis).

Additionally, the top of the Arrma Outcast 8S is reinforced with protective skids, which help extend the body’s durability and lifespan.

The Rear

Moving to the rear, just after the skids, you’ll find support bars that not only enhance protection but also provide additional structural support, as they are connected to the internal cage.

As for the spoiler, while it appears to be part of the body, it is actually attached to the chassis. This adds stability and enhances the overall design.

Overall, the Arrma Outcast 8S features a well-protected body, though the color options for the 8S version are somewhat limited. It also doesn’t come with an extensive selection of stickers—just a single-color paint job with a few decals on the sides.

In summary, the Arrma Outcast 8S body looks fantastic, with no major drawbacks to mention!

What About the Chassis?

Arrma Outcast 8s Chassis

Arrma Outcast 8s Review

What’s new in the Arrma Outcast 8s Chassis?

The Arrma Outcast 8S chassis shares the same foundation as the Kraton 8S. When you remove the body, the resemblance between the two becomes immediately apparent. However, what sets the Outcast 8S apart are the additional upgrades Arrma has introduced to enhance durability and handling.

One notable difference is in the chassis bracing. The Kraton 8S features a single long bar running from the front to the rear for structural support. While effective, this design is prone to bending after heavy jumps. To address this issue, Arrma redesigned the Outcast 8S with two separate support bars—one extending from the front to the middle and another from the middle to the rear—offering improved strength and resilience.

Another significant improvement is the chassis’s bottom metal skid plate. In the Kraton 8S, this component lacked the necessary rigidity to provide adequate support. Arrma corrected this in the Outcast 8S by shortening and reinforcing it, resulting in greater stiffness and durability. For added protection, you can even install an extra layer to further prevent bending.

Additionally, the Outcast 8S boasts a higher ground clearance, making it exceptionally well-suited for off-road adventures. Its large wheels and wide chassis contribute to superior handling and stability, ensuring a smoother and more controlled driving experience.

The Front of the Chassis

At the front of the chassis, you’ll find a slim yet sturdy bumper reinforced by two braces positioned behind it. These braces enhance protection for the internal components while also improving shock absorption.

The shock towers, though made of plastic, are surprisingly durable and perform their function exceptionally well. One of the most impressive aspects of the Arrma Outcast 8S is its suspension system—its massive shocks are designed to handle the significant weight of this RC truck with ease. Additionally, the inclusion of double arms provides extra reinforcement, ensuring superior stability and support.

The Rear of the Chassis

The rear of the chassis closely mirrors the front in terms of suspension and shock tower design. However, what stands out most is the large spoiler, which we mentioned earlier. While it resembles the one found on the Arrma Kraton, it is slightly shorter.

Regardless of its size, the spoiler plays a crucial role in generating downforce, enhancing stability—especially at high speeds. Positioned right below the spoiler is a compact wheelie bar, which is ingeniously attached to the rear of the wing.

What makes this placement particularly effective is the high ground clearance of the Arrma Outcast 8S. A traditional wheelie bar setup wouldn’t be as effective, but this design choice ensures better functionality. As a result, you can unleash the truck’s powerful acceleration without worrying about tipping over. In fact, lifting the front wheels and riding on the rear wheels alone is not just possible—it’s incredibly fun!

As for internal components, they are well protected by the large side panels of the chassis, prominently featuring the ARRMA branding. Beyond this, nearly every part of the Arrma Outcast 8S is oversized, built for durability and performance. We’ll dive deeper into these components in the performance section.

Arrma Outcast 8s Performance

Off-Roading Performance

As we mentioned earlier, whether you’re driving the Arrma Outcast 8S on or off-road, you’re guaranteed to have a blast. Thanks to the latest chassis upgrades, its handling and durability have significantly improved, allowing you to push this RC beast to its limits without worrying about major breakages.

However, there is one weak point you might encounter—the shocks. Due to the Outcast 8S’s substantial weight, performing high jumps and landing hard can sometimes cause the shocks to detach from the suspension arms. This issue tends to affect the rear shocks the most, as the back end of the RC car absorbs the highest impact during landings.

Despite its weight, the rest of the vehicle holds up impressively well. There are no concerns about chassis bending, nor any issues with the central bar or driveshaft—everything remains solid and intact. The shocks are the only component that might need attention. Fortunately, fixing them is simple—you can either reattach them or consider upgrading to more robust alternatives for better long-term performance.

Aside from this minor issue, the Arrma Outcast 8S is an absolute powerhouse. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out on an incredible RC experience!

What is the Arrma Outcast 8s Top Speed?

While the Arrma Outcast 8S performs well on-road, its true potential shines off-road—tearing through mud, water, and rough terrain. This is where its robust chassis and internal components are truly put to the test.

As an 8S-powered RC truck, the Arrma Outcast 8S naturally delivers impressive speed. Equipped with a Spektrum™ Firma™ 1250Kv Brushless Motor, Spektrum™ Firma™ 160A Smart ESC, and a Spektrum™ S905 Metal-Geared Digital Servo, along with two 4S LiPo batteries, this beast can reach speeds of 50–55 mph.

For a vehicle of this size and weight, that speed is remarkable. To ensure optimal performance, the motor is fitted with a large cooling fan and heatsink, preventing overheating. Additionally, the ESC incorporates the latest technology from Arrma and Spektrum, enhancing efficiency and durability.

One standout feature is the powerful servo, which provides exceptional responsiveness—eliminating the need for an upgrade.

The other Arrma Outcast Versions

Arrma Outcast 8s Review

So far, we’ve focused on the Arrma Outcast 8S, but there are three other versions worth considering. These models are more affordable but also come with less power—except for the EXB, which is sold without electronics.

The Arrma Outcast 4S is the smallest, most budget-friendly option and serves as the entry-level version of this RC car.

The Arrma Outcast 6S offers a balance between size and power, making it a great alternative if the 8S model is beyond your budget. It delivers strong performance while remaining more affordable.

The Arrma Outcast 8S EXB is a unique version that comes without electronics, making it initially cheaper than even the 6S. However, if you plan to equip it with high-quality electronics to unleash its full potential, the overall cost can exceed the price of a fully-equipped model.

Arrma Outcast 8S Upgrades

The Arrma Outcast 8s is a powerhouse in the world of RC cars, renowned for its durability and performance. However, while its stock plastic components are reliable, they may not withstand the rigors of extreme bashing.

To enhance its resilience and take your driving experience to the next level, upgrading to aluminum parts is a smart move.

Consider swapping out key components like the suspension arms, driveshafts, and steering blocks for their aluminum counterparts. Additionally, you can add an aluminum wheelie bar for better stability during high-speed stunts or opt for aluminum shocks to improve handling and durability.

The good news? Finding parts for the Arrma Outcast 8s is a breeze. Many of its components are interchangeable with the popular Kraton 8s, making upgrades both accessible and affordable.

With a wide range of aftermarket options available, customizing your Arrma Outcast 8s is simple and cost-effective. Whether you’re looking to boost performance, enhance durability, or simply personalize your ride, the possibilities are endless.

Minor Drawbacks of the Arrma Outcast 8s

While this Arrma Outcast 8s review has primarily highlighted its impressive features, it’s worth noting that no product is entirely flawless. There’s always room for enhancement, even in a well-designed machine like this.

From my experience as a user and driver, there’s very little to criticize about this RC car. It’s exceptionally well-built, reliable, and an absolute blast to drive.

The body design is spot-on, and the chassis is equipped with everything necessary to dominate any terrain.

That said, one area that could see improvement in future iterations is the shock system. While it performs admirably, there’s potential for even better handling and stability.

Beyond this, there’s truly nothing to complain about—it’s a near-perfect RC car that delivers on all fronts.

Another cool detail is the sticker on the side windows, which mimics the look of racing car windows. It’s a small feature, but it adds a layer of authenticity and style to the overall design.

What’s also impressive is the range of options Arrma offers to cater to different budgets and preferences. If the Outcast 8s is out of your price range, you can opt for the 4s or 6s models.
