What’s the one thing everyone loves about supercars? Easy — their jaw-dropping performance and sleek design. And that’s exactly what the Traxxas Ford GT brings to the world of RC cars.
If you’ve seen our past reviews on other Traxxas models like the 4-Tec 2.0 Ford Mustang or the 4-Tec 3.0 Corvette Stingray, you already know how impressive these machines are. These RC cars are among the best Traxxas has to offer!
Why? Two reasons:
- They’re faithful replicas of real-life supercars we all admire.
- They’re fast, powerful, and built for high performance.
Unlike many Traxxas models that use the Slash platform — like the Hoss — these cars are built on their own unique chassis: the 4-Tec platform, starting with 2.0 and now upgraded to the 4-Tec 3.0, as seen with the Stingray.
Now, let’s talk about the Traxxas Ford GT — a true beast in RC form. It’s not just another high-performing RC car; it comes with exclusive features that set it apart from the rest.
Ready for a deep dive? Let’s start our review of the Traxxas Ford GT!
Stunning Design: A True Supercar Replica

Traxxas Ford GT Body
One of the most remarkable aspects of this RC car is its design—and it’s nothing short of stunning!
If you’re a fan of supercars, you’ll instantly recognize that this Traxxas model is a licensed replica of the real Ford GT. And just like the full-size version, it’s a true work of art. Every curve, line, and contour has been faithfully recreated with impressive accuracy.
What’s even more impressive is how precisely Traxxas has captured the design, replicating every intricate detail without compromise. It’s a level of craftsmanship rarely seen in RC models.
One of the standout features I absolutely love is the inclusion of aerodynamic wings—a unique touch not found on any other Traxxas RC car to date. It’s exclusive, and it adds both realism and flair.
Then there are the large air vents at the front. Not only do they look incredible, but Traxxas cleverly utilized them to hide the body clips—a brilliant solution that preserves the sleek lines of the car. Normally, visible clips can interrupt the flow of an RC car’s design, but here, they’re virtually invisible.
The headlights and taillights are another highlight. They match the real Ford GT’s lighting layout perfectly and are beautifully molded. While they aren’t functional out of the box, you can upgrade with an optional light kit to bring them to life.
And the exhausts? Absolutely breathtaking. They might just be the most eye-catching detail on the entire model.
Without a doubt, the Traxxas Ford GT is one of the most visually stunning RC cars Traxxas has ever produced.
So, now that we’ve admired the design—let’s take a closer look at what’s underneath the body: the chassis.
Traxxas Ford GT Chassis

As mentioned in the introduction, this RC car is built on the Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 platform, similar to the Traxxas Mustang. However, it comes with several notable upgrades.
One of the standout features of both the Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 and 3.0 chassis is how closely they resemble real supercars in design and performance. For example, the chassis has an ultra-low center of gravity—just like a real supercar—which greatly enhances stability and handling. You’ll also find a rear diffuser that not only looks cool but also adds to the aerodynamic realism, along with stylish, performance-inspired wheels.
The structure of the Traxxas Ford GT chassis is essentially the same as that of the Ford Mustang version. At the front, the body houses detailed suspension components, including oil-filled shocks and suspension arms. This section also contains the drivetrain components responsible for channeling power from the motor to the front wheels.
Moving to the middle of the chassis, it’s split into two main compartments—one dedicated to the battery and the other housing the motor, electronic speed controller (ESC), and servos.
The rear of the chassis mirrors the front in many ways, except for the addition of a shock tower, which is used to secure the body shell to the chassis.
There are also some impressive finer details on the Traxxas Ford GT, such as the brake calipers, which give the car a more authentic, sporty appearance.
While most of the components are made of plastic, they’re built to last—especially since this car is designed for on-road driving. Unlike RC trucks, you won’t be launching this car off jumps or navigating rocky terrain. After all, it’s a supercar!
Now that we’ve explored the chassis features of the Traxxas Ford GT, let’s pop the hood and take a look at its true performance capabilities!
Traxxas Ford GT Performance
So far, we’ve seen that the Traxxas Ford GT shines in both looks and build — but what about performance? Spoiler alert: it doesn’t disappoint.
From its powerful internals to its smooth handling, this RC car is built for speed and control. Let’s break it down:
Power That Delivers
At the heart of the Traxxas Ford GT is a Titan™ 12T 550 brushed motor, complete with an internal cooling fan to keep things running smoothly during intense sessions. While it’s a brushed system, it still delivers strong acceleration and reliable power — perfect for entry-level speed enthusiasts.
Want more? You can always upgrade to a brushless motor for even greater speed and efficiency.
Smart, Waterproof ESC
The car features the XL-5™ Waterproof Electronic Speed Control (ESC), which adds versatility and control to your driving experience. It offers three distinct driving modes:
- Sport Mode – Full forward and reverse power for everyday fun.
- Race Mode – No reverse, ideal for competitive driving.
- Training Mode – Reduced power for beginners or younger drivers.
The ESC is also compatible with both NiMH and LiPo batteries, giving you flexibility in how you power your ride.
Speed Potential
With a Traxxas 2-cell LiPo battery, the Traxxas Ford GT can hit speeds of up to 30 mph straight out of the box. That’s seriously fast for a brushed motor setup!
(Note: Battery and charger are sold separately.)
Impressive Handling
Speed is only half the story — control is where this car really shines. Thanks to its wide stance and low center of gravity, the Ford GT grips the road with confidence. Whether you’re carving corners or launching straight-line sprints, the handling feels stable and responsive.
No more tipping through turns — this car stays planted, even at high speeds. And if you’re into drifting, you’re in for a treat. Wet pavement? Even better. This RC car is a blast to drift around after a rainstorm.
Tech That Enhances Performance
What makes the Traxxas Ford GT perform so well isn’t just the motor or the ESC. It’s also the result of high-tech systems working together behind the scenes — from its precision drivetrain to its advanced suspension setup — all designed to mimic the dynamics of a real supercar.
Systems in the Traxxas Ford GT
The Traxxas Ford GT is equipped with advanced systems that enhance its performance and driving experience. While some Traxxas RC models come with three onboard systems, the Ford GT includes two: Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) and Cruise Control via Traxxas Link.
Traxxas Stability Management (TSM)
The TSM is a widely used feature across many Traxxas RC vehicles, designed to help maintain directional control, especially during high-speed runs or on slippery surfaces.
Without TSM, launching your RC car can be a real challenge—it may spin out or flip uncontrollably. With TSM activated, however, the system automatically adjusts the steering by turning the front wheels in the opposite direction of the slide. This allows the car to drift briefly before regaining its straight path, resulting in smoother and more stable control.
One of the best features of TSM is its adjustability. Using your remote controller, you can modify the level of assistance TSM provides—or even turn it off entirely—based on your preference and driving conditions.
Traxxas Link
Traxxas Link is a powerful telemetry system perfect for performance-oriented drivers. It allows you to monitor real-time data about your RC car’s performance.
To use it, you’ll need the optional Traxxas Link module, which attaches to your controller. Once installed, you can connect it to the Traxxas Link app on your smartphone via Bluetooth.
Through the app, you’ll gain access to detailed stats such as speed, temperature, and even location, all displayed conveniently on your phone. This makes it an excellent tool for those who enjoy upgrading or fine-tuning their RC cars, as it helps detect compatibility issues and optimize performance.
Not only does it enhance the driving experience, but it also contributes to the safety of your vehicle—and your investment.
Traxxas Ford GT Upgrades
The Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 chassis is known for its user-friendly design, making it incredibly easy to upgrade and customize.
You can enhance nearly every part of your Traxxas Ford GT, including:
- Chassis Plate – Upgrade to a more durable or performance-focused version.
- Suspension Arms – Swap the stock parts for aluminum versions for improved strength and handling.
- Front Knuckle Arms – Aluminum knuckles offer better durability and precision.
- Motor – Upgrade to a powerful brushless motor and leave 30 mph in the dust!
But the upgrades don’t stop at the chassis. You can also customize the body:
- Choose from alternative colors or even switch to a different car model altogether.
- Replace or add body clips in case you’ve lost some.
- Add a light kit for an awesome nighttime driving experience.
With so many upgrade options, your Traxxas Ford GT can be truly your own—both in performance and style!
What I Don’t Like About the Traxxas Ford GT
No VXL (Brushless) Model Available
Many Traxxas RC vehicles come in various versions—2WD, 4WD, and the high-performance VXL (brushless) models. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with the Traxxas Ford GT.
In fact, none of the 4-Tec 2.0 or 3.0 models include a dedicated VXL version. There’s only one standard model available—the one we’re reviewing here.
While you can upgrade to a brushless motor, it’s important to note that the VXL version isn’t just about the motor. It also includes a range of upgraded components designed to handle the added power. Replicating that setup requires installing several additional and somewhat complex parts, which can be a bit challenging.
Limited Top Speed
Let’s be honest—when you hear the name Traxxas Ford GT, you expect supercar performance. While it’s a beautiful machine, the stock top speed might feel underwhelming, especially if you’re used to high-performance RC models like the Maxx, E-Revo, or traxxas XO-1.
That said, this isn’t a deal-breaker. The good news is you can boost the speed significantly through performance upgrades.
What I Love About the Traxxas Ford GT
Incredible Attention to Detail
This is hands down the most impressive feature of the Traxxas Ford GT. The level of detail is stunning—from the rear diffuser, headlights, and taillights to the exhausts and even a replica engine. It’s a showcase of creativity and craftsmanship.
Clean and Simple Chassis Design
Another highlight is the chassis layout. Like all 4-Tec 2.0 and 3.0 models, the Ford GT features a minimalist, well-organized design that makes it easy to identify and access internal components. It’s not only functional but also a joy to work on.
So, Should You Buy It?
After everything we’ve covered, it’s clear that the Traxxas Ford GT is a standout RC supercar. Its incredible body design and attention to detail truly set it apart from other models in the 4-Tec lineup.
If you’re considering a Traxxas 4-Tec RC car, the Ford GT should be at the top of your list. The creativity and realism packed into this model are unmatched—it’s something you won’t easily find in its category.
