The Design
Traxxas Maxx V2 Body
At first glance, the body of the WideMaxx might seem identical, but there are some key differences!
One significant change is that the old Maxx body won’t fit the new WideMaxx chassis. This is due to the modifications made to the chassis.
The new body has similar styling but with extended dimensions, featuring an internal cage, skid plates, and a clipless design.
However, the longer internal cage means this new body is incompatible with the old chassis.

Traxxas Maxx V2 Chassis
In this new upgrade, the chassis is one of the most important parts that have been changed compared to the previous version.
In fact, the truck’s size and stability have been significantly increased. The Wide Maxx kit, previously an optional $50 upgrade, is now part of the standard equipment. This kit increases the width of the truck by about 10 percent, making it about an inch and a half wider than the old version.
This additional width greatly enhances the truck’s stability, especially during sharp turns and quick maneuvers, reducing the likelihood of a rollover and increasing overall handling.
In addition, the new Maxx 2.0 features a longer chassis, increasing the length of the wheelbase by 7%. This extension enhances the vehicle’s stability in straight lines, making it more capable on rough terrain, and allows drivers to maintain control while driving with front-wheel drive.
The longer body also helps keep the front wheels low, a key element for drivers who favor an aggressive driving style. These dimensional improvements contribute to a more stable and controllable driving experience, making the Maxx 2.0 an excellent choice for both amateurs and professional racers.

Traxxas Maxx V2 Review: The Performance
The Traxxas Maxx V2 is equipped with a high-performance brushless motor and is designed to work seamlessly with 4S LiPo batteries. This combination allows the truck to achieve impressive speeds of up to 60 mph.
While the powertrain is capable of handling 6S power, the electronics are specifically tuned for 4S, striking an ideal balance between speed and durability.
During testing, the Maxx V2 reached a top speed of 52 mph using the stock gear setup. With a few simple modifications, it can easily push past this and hit the 60 mph mark.

The Traxxas Maxx 2.0’s suspension has been enhanced with upgraded shock oil—90-weight in the rear and 80-weight in the front.

The Traxxas Maxx 2.0 is equipped with the TQi radio system, a standout feature in the RTR category. Beyond functionality, the TQi radio also boasts an ergonomic design with adjustable settings, ensuring a comfortable and smooth experience every time you use it.
Traxxas Maxx V2 Transmitter and Receiver
The transmitter and receiver of the Traxxas Maxx V2 remain unchanged—they’re the same as before!
All the familiar features are still present, including the Self-Righting system, TSM (Traxxas Stability Management), and Traxxas Link, which allows you to monitor additional information about your RC car via your smartphone, along with other minor features.
The receiver also retains its waterproof capability.
In short, you’ll still have the same remote in your hand, but with enhanced performance in the RC car.
Traxxas Maxx V2 Tires
The new 2.8-inch “Sledgehammer” tires are one of the most notable improvements to the Maxx 2.0.
These tires feature an open tread design that allows them to excel in muddy and slippery conditions, while maintaining good on-road performance as well. Compared to the older Maxx tires, these tires are larger, which contributes to improved truck performance and speed by positively affecting the transmission gears. To address this change, Traxxas modified the gears, reducing the number of gear teeth by one, to ensure the truck can still reach high speeds without compromising its ability to handle bumps
Traxxas Maxx V2 Upgrades
Upgrading the Traxxas Maxx V2 is essential not only for maintenance but also to enhance its performance and extend its lifespan.
Despite its robust design, the Traxxas Maxx V2 is still susceptible to wear and tear, especially on components such as the front bumper, motor, and skid plates, which can deteriorate over time.

Should You Buy It?
To help you decide, let’s consider three different scenarios:
1. You already own the original Traxxas Maxx and are thinking about upgrading to the new Traxxas Maxx V2.
2. You recently purchased the older version of the Traxxas Maxx, just before the release of the new WideMaxx.
3. You don’t own a Traxxas Maxx yet, but you’re considering buying one.
If you fall into the first category and have an older version of the Maxx, upgrading to the Traxxas Maxx V2 is definitely worth it. The difference between the two models is significant.
For those in the second category, who recently bought the older Traxxas Maxx, I’d suggest reconsidering the upgrade. Since the Traxxas Maxx 2.0 is priced similarly, it might not be worth spending more money on a new RC car. Instead, upgrading with the WideMaxx kit would be a smarter choice.
