Traxxas Stampede 2WD , The Best Traxxas RC Car For Beginners.

The Traxxas Stampede 2WD is one of the most iconic models in the Traxxas lineup. Its height, wheels, and body design set it apart from other Traxxas RC vehicles.

Despite its unique shape and structure, this RC monster truck is still an excellent choice for beginners. It’s affordable to purchase and easy to repair if you happen to break it (which is likely!).

However, there are other great beginner options, such as the Traxxas Slash 2WD. So, what sets these models apart, and which one should you choose?

Let’s explore these questions in the following lines

The design

 Traxxas Stampede Body

Traxxas Stampede 2WD

As mentioned earlier, if you’re even somewhat familiar with Traxxas RC cars, you’ll notice that the Stampede 2WD has a unique shape compared to other RC trucks. The first thing that stands out is how thin and elongated the body is — it’s quite noticeable!

Unlike the Traxxas Slash, which has a body that covers most of the chassis, including the wheels, the Stampede’s body only covers the chassis itself. Additionally, the body does not cover the motor, which is mounted at the rear, unlike most Traxxas vehicles where the motor is typically placed in the middle.

Another striking feature is the vehicle’s height. This significant height plays a crucial role in off-road driving, allowing the Stampede 2WD to tackle obstacles with ease, especially when paired with its large, rugged wheels.

Traxxas Stampede 2WD Chassis

Traxxas Stampede 2WD

One of the cool things about the Traxxas Stampede 2WD is that its chassis is based on the Slash chassis platform. However, its structure differs from other Traxxas RC cars. The first thing you’ll likely notice, as I did, is how narrow the chassis is — it’s the slimmest I’ve seen in any Traxxas RC car!

Because of this narrow design, there isn’t as much space for internal components to be arranged like in other RC cars. Consequently, Traxxas has positioned the motor at the rear of the vehicle.

While this placement is interesting, it leaves the motor somewhat exposed, as the chassis doesn’t offer much protection. Being the lowest part of the vehicle and close to the ground, there’s a risk of the motor making contact with the ground, especially during intense acceleration with the 2WD system. So, how can the motor be protected from damage?

Fortunately, there is a part that not only prevents the motor from hitting the ground but also keeps the vehicle from flipping backward — the wheelie bar! However, this component doesn’t come included with the vehicle, so you’ll need to purchase it separately. Here’s a compatible wheelie bar for the Traxxas Stampede 2WD.

With the wheelie bar installed, there’s no need to worry about damaging the motor, but I still think Traxxas should consider repositioning the motor in future versions of this monster truck.

Aside from that, the Traxxas Stampede shares many components with the Traxxas Slash 2WD, which is known for its durability, handling, and endurance.

Traxxas Stampede 2WD review : Performance

The Traxxas Stampede 2WD, a best-selling RC car, is equipped with a powerful Titan® 12-turn 550 brushed motor and a robust XL-5 waterproof electronic speed control.

Together, these components enable the Stampede 2WD to reach impressive speeds of over 30 mph. Incredible, right?

If that’s not fast enough for you, there’s an option to upgrade to a brushless motor, which will make your Stampede accelerate like a rocket! (Here’s a compatible brushless motor for it).

The Titan motor includes an integrated cooling fan that draws cool air through vent tunnels molded into the motor plate, helping to reduce temperatures. This cooling system allows your Stampede to run longer without damage, as a cooler motor results in higher speeds, extended runtimes, and increased motor life.

Additionally, the XL-5 speed control offers three drive profiles, low-voltage detection, thermal shutdown protection, gold-plated connectors, and extremely low resistance. It also features a waterproof 27 MHz receiver box for added durability.

One of the standout features of the Traxxas Stampede 2WD is its patented High-Current Connector, which ensures unrestricted current flow, especially when paired with high-power batteries.

Whether you’re driving on grass, sand, snow, or mud, nothing holds this RC car back. It’s designed for fun, no matter your age!

The Stampede 2WD’s performance isn’t just about the motor and radio control. Several other essential components contribute to its top-tier capabilities, including:

– A 4-amp DC fast charger

– A Traxxas iD-equipped 7-cell Power Cell NiMH battery (Upgradeable to a LiPo battery for even more power)

– TQ™ 2.4GHz radio system

– Waterproof electronics that ensure excitement in all weather conditions, including water, mud, and snow

– Titan® 12-turn 550 motor

– 30+ mph top speed*

Traxxas Stampede 2WD Parts

The Traxxas Stampede 2WD is a Ready-To-Race (RTR) RC car, meaning it comes with all the necessary parts. No more hassle of purchasing batteries and chargers separately. (Though some versions may come without a battery and charger.)

4-Amp DC Peak Detecting Fast Charger

One of the biggest frustrations for RC car enthusiasts is waiting during long charging sessions, especially when you’re eager to get back out and enjoy driving these high-powered little machines.

Fortunately, the Traxxas Stampede 2WD makes things much simpler. It includes a 4-amp DC fast charger, allowing for quick charging times—typically between 45 minutes to an hour—so you can maximize your playtime and minimize waiting.

This NiMH charger is designed to use a 12-volt DC power outlet for universal high-output charging and is optimized for charging the iD Power Cell NiMH battery. The charger features a status LED that flashes green while charging and turns solid green when the process is complete, ensuring easy and reliable charging, peak performance, and extended runtime.

Traxxas Power Cell NiMH Battery with iD®

The Traxxas Stampede 2WD comes equipped with an 8.4V 3000mAh Power Cell™ battery pack, offering optimal performance and handling.

This battery is designed for maximum power flow and punch, featuring high-quality, low-resistance cells, flexible silicone-jacketed 12-gauge wire, heavy-duty welded tabs, and High-Current Connectors to ensure peak performance.

Traxxas Stampede 2WD Upgrades

Wondering about upgrading this RC car? Are parts easy to find, and are they affordable?

The answer is straightforward—since the Traxxas Stampede shares the same platform as the Slash, many of their parts are interchangeable.

In fact, some of the most affordable parts available are for the Traxxas Slash and Stampede.

And here’s the good news: upgrading and swapping parts is simple, even if you’re not very tech-savvy. So, no need to worry!

What I Dislike About the Stampede 2WD

One aspect I don’t like about this RC car, as I previously mentioned, is the placement of the motor. Its location makes it vulnerable to dust, snow, and mud, and there’s also a risk of damage from hard impacts after big jumps.
