Is the Traxxas X-Maxx the best Monster Truck ?

I’m thrilled to discuss the Traxxas X-Maxx 8s RC car with you. After reviewing a range of Traxxas RC cars, including some of the most powerful models like the Traxxas Maxx, Rustler, and Hoss, I’ve become captivated by their impressive size and power. I suspect you share the same enthusiasm—perhaps you’ve even purchased one or have a collection of them in your garage!

However, the power of those three models pales in comparison to what you’re about to discover. In the next few lines, you’ll be introduced to the Traxxas X-Maxx 8s 4WD…

This beast has genuinely amazed me—not just with its massive size, but also with its incredible power and reliability.

We’ll dive into more details in our in-depth review

The design

Traxxas X-Maxx 8s Body

Traxxas X-Maxx

The first thing that struck me when I unboxed the X-Maxx was its sheer size. No matter what you expect in terms of dimensions, you’ll definitely be amazed by how massive this car is—especially the wheels!

If you don’t currently own an X-Maxx but are considering getting one, let me set the stage for you. If you have a 1/10 scale RC car, just know that the entire car is about the same size as one of the X-Maxx’s wheels! That should give you an idea of how big it truly is.

The Traxxas X-Maxx comes in two color schemes: one is a mix of green and black, and the other is red and blue. A nice touch is that the shocks and wheel lock nuts match the color scheme you choose, giving the car a sportier and more aggressive appearance.

As you’d expect from a vehicle like this, the internal body is secured to the chassis with several clips. However, the exterior is clipless! Instead, there’s one large clip that allows you to easily remove the body.

Traxxas really seems to be making things simpler these days, don’t they?

Traxxas X-Maxx 8s Chassis

Traxxas X-Maxx

What I appreciate most about this car’s chassis is its simplicity and minimalistic design. Despite being made of plastic, it still manages to look sporty from underneath.

The Traxxas features two battery compartments—one on the right and one on the left. This design is unique to the X-Maxx 8s, enhancing both speed and performance for an even more thrilling experience!

Additionally, Traxxas has fitted the vehicle with durable front and rear bumpers made from hard plastic, providing protection against impacts during crashes.

Another interesting feature of the X-Maxx is the wheelie bar attached to the rear bumper, which helps maintain balance and prevents the car from flipping over when accelerating at full throttle.

The Performance

Now, let’s get serious—because the real fun is about to begin!

The Traxxas X-Maxx is the most powerful model Traxxas has ever produced, featuring a new Velineon 1200XL Brushless motor and a VXL-8s speed controller, along with a 4WD system integrated with the TQi 2.4 GHz radio system. This combination allows the car to reach speeds exceeding 50 mph, and potentially even higher with the addition of two 4-cell 6700mAh iD Lipo batteries  (It doesn’t come with a battery)!

Therefore, the Traxxas X-Maxx is an RTR (Ready-To-Race) but it doesn’t come with a battery either with a charger. And the perfect charger that Traxxas recommends for this vehicle is the EZ-PEAK live charger.

Traxxas X-Maxx is waterproof

Yes, it is! This Traxxas comes with the waterproof VXL-8s speed control system so you can enjoy every moment of your driving experience without having to worry every time about where your RC car is going.

Now you can enjoy going through water, mud, grass…

Nothing can stop you!

The TSM (Traxxas Stability Management System) & The Radio

One of my favorite features of Traxxas RC cars is the Traxxas Stability Management system. It’s not just found in the Traxxas X-Maxx, but also in other models we’ve reviewed on our website, like the Maxx. Whether you’re driving through water, mud, snow, or navigating through various terrains, all you need to do is hit the throttle and enjoy the ride!

This system significantly helps drivers maintain control and keep the X-Maxx moving in a straight line, even at full throttle, without losing balance or control. What’s even better is that you can adjust or completely disable this system directly from your transmitter, with settings ranging from 0 to 100

Self-Righting System

The Traxxas X-Maxx eliminates the hassle of manually flipping your vehicle back onto its wheels after a high-speed roll. Thanks to its self-righting system, you can easily get your truck back on its wheels with just a press of a button on your transmitter!

No more running to flip your car over—this system will save you both time and effort. Isn’t that convenient?

The Radio System

The radio system of the X-Maxx RC car is quite similar to that of the Traxxas E-Revo 2.0, offering ease of use and simplicity. If you’re new to it, don’t worry—you’ll need less than 30 minutes of practice to get the hang of it!

The X-Maxx comes equipped with a TQ 2.4GHz radio system, ensuring a smooth, glitch-free response. Additionally, its watertight receiver box allows for thrilling all-weather performance.

The controller itself is straightforward, featuring an accelerator, brake, steering wheel, and an ON/OFF button. For other models, you’ll find additional buttons to control the TSM (Traxxas Stability Management) and to use the Traxxas Link.

Its design is so comfortable and lightweight for your hands even if you play all day.

Traxxas X-Maxx price

Especially that the price point of the Traxxas X-Maxx Ultimate isn’t cheap. Actually, it is almost at the same price point as Traxxas XRT

But still, Traxxas X-Maxx  has a lot of great features!

What I Dislike About the Traxxas X-Maxx

Although I didn’t experience this issue personally while testing the Traxxas X-Maxx RC car, I did come across a YouTube video where someone was pushing the truck to its limits (keeping in mind it was a brand-new Traxxas). After some time, the intense driving pressure caused the tire to burst, requiring a replacement.

Now, this could happen if you’re particularly rough with your Traxxas. However, the reviewer also mentioned that he ended up buying new high-quality tires for around $70, which seems a bit pricey to me. (Here’s an option for less.)

The car itself is also quite expensive, but you do get what you pay for. Honestly, there’s a noticeable difference between the Traxxas X-Maxx and other Traxxas RC cars, including the Maxx, which is essentially the “baby” version of the X-Maxx. And that leads me to what I like about the Traxxas X-Maxx.

What I Love About This Monster Truck

One of the aspects I truly appreciate about this vehicle, aside from its advanced technology and high-quality systems, is the driving experience!

The driving experience is incredible—you never have to worry about crashing or dealing with technical issues. After all, you’re behind the wheel of a reliable beast that seems unstoppable.

Another feature I admire is the truck’s fully waterproof system, which is perfect for someone like me who enjoys playing in the water. Whether I’m splashing through puddles on foot, riding my bike, or driving a real car, it’s always a thrill—especially with a monster truck that kicks up a spray as it charges through!
