While the Maxx is a monster truck, similar to the X-Maxx, the XRT is a truggy that resembles the Traxxas Sledge.
However, when comparing their features, they share several commonalities, such as the clipless body design, front bumper, plastic skids, and a wheelie bar included with the stock version.
That being said, the newer Traxxas XRT boasts a few additional features, including air vents on the hood and top, which help channel airflow to the motor and its cooling fans.
Both models also come equipped with internal cages that support the body. These cages serve a dual purpose, as they can also be used to mount a light kit.
One notable difference between the Traxxas XRT and Maxx V2 is the spoiler. The XRT comes with a spoiler, whereas the Maxx does not. Instead, the Maxx includes additional rear skids to provide extra protection for the body.

While the bodies of the Traxxas XRT and Maxx V2 differ in design and shape, they share many of the same features. Now, let’s compare their chassis to see how they stack up.
Both vehicles are high-end RC cars, and the construction methods and design approaches for their chassis are quite similar.
Traxxas XRT vs Maxx V2 Dimensions
One of the most notable differences between these two models is the suspension.
While many believe that the Traxxas WideMaxx is the second-largest RC car after the X-Maxx, that’s no longer true. The XRT has now claimed that title. It’s surprising, but the XRT surpasses the Maxx in every dimension—it’s wider, taller, and longer.
However, it’s not all bad news for the Maxx. Since the XRT is larger, it’s also heavier, which gives the Maxx an advantage in terms of weight.
Middle of the Chassis
The middle section of the chassis is where most of the electronics are housed. However, it’s not just the types of electronics that matter, but also how they’re arranged. This electronic layout plays a key role in weight distribution, which directly impacts performance and handling.
As previously mentioned, the XRT has a larger chassis, allowing for a longer wheelbase compared to the Maxx. This gives the XRT more space to organize its electronics and batteries.
In the XRT, the batteries are positioned on the sides, while the electronics—starting from the servo to the motor—are centrally located.
In contrast, the Maxx has a different layout, with the electronics on the right side and the battery holder on the left.
Both models have excellent weight distribution, but the XRT seems to have a slight edge when it comes to balance.

Traxxas XRT vs. Maxx V2 Tires
Tires play a crucial role in any RC car, not only enabling movement but also significantly enhancing handling.
In our full review of the XRT, you’ll notice that its wide wheels greatly contribute to its impressive handling performance.
The XRT comes equipped with new 7.4″ Gravix™ race tires, specially designed for Traxxas RC cars. On the other hand, the Traxxas Maxx features the robust 2.8” Sledgehammer® extreme tires, known for their strength and durability. However, due to the Maxx’s high acceleration, these tires occasionally blow out.
The key distinction between the XRT and Maxx V2 tires becomes apparent during off-road conditions, particularly when the vehicles are airborne. When comparing the Maxx to the Hoss, we found that the Hoss is easier to control mid-air, even though both models perform well in the air.
However, the XRT is more difficult to manage while airborne, making it quite challenging to pull off stunts like backflips.
Why is that?
The XRT tires are designed for racing, so they have less ballooning and more rigidity. This makes it tough for the tires to generate the forward or backward thrust needed to control the car in mid-air.
That said, the XRT is still new, and as more upgrade parts become available, we’re hopeful that off-road tires will be released to improve its aerial control!

Traxxas XRT VS Maxx V2 Performance
Now, let’s get down to business! It’s showtime!
The two RC cars we’re comparing here are both fast, and despite having different electronics, they share the same top speed.
The Traxxas XRT is equipped with a Velineon® 1200XL Brushless Motor, a VXL-8s™ Waterproof Electronic Speed Control, and runs on dual 4s LiPo batteries, giving it a total of 8s power.
On the other hand, the Traxxas Maxx features a Velineon® 540XL Brushless Motor, a VXL-4s™ Waterproof Electronic Speed Control, and uses a single 4s LiPo battery.
To hit the top speed with either of these models, don’t forget to install the speed pinion gear.
When comparing the electronics of the Traxxas XRT and Maxx V2, it’s clear that the Maxx has fewer components, using a single 4s battery versus the dual 4s setup on the XRT. Still, the Maxx can achieve speeds of up to 60mph.
Additionally, the XRT borrows several components from the X-Maxx, such as the 8s driveshafts.
So, while both cars can reach similar top speeds, how do they compare in terms of handling?
Traxxas XRT VS Maxx V2 Handling
As mentioned earlier, good handling in an RC car depends on a variety of factors, such as ground clearance and tire quality.
When it comes to cornering, the XRT comes out on top, thanks to its low ground clearance, wide tires, and low body profile, making it difficult to flip over.
The Traxxas Maxx, while lacking wider tires, does benefit from its WideMaxx suspension and low ground clearance, which help with cornering, though it still can’t outperform the XRT.
Regarding durability, both cars feature a variety of heavy-duty and aluminum parts, especially in the shocks and suspension systems. However, you can always upgrade if you want to strengthen them even further!

Traxxas XRT VS Maxx V2 Transmitter and Receiver
If you’re familiar with the Traxxas Maxx, you’re likely aware that it comes with one of the best transmitters in the Traxxas lineup, offering all the necessary features and qualities.
The same applies to the XRT, which also uses the same transmitter and receiver. While the XRT introduced several new components, it’s a bit disappointing that the transmitter and receiver have remained unchanged for quite some time without any upgrades.
