In contrast, the Traxxas XRT chassis might appear unfamiliar because it’s a completely new design.
In terms of ground clearance, the X-Maxx sits higher than the XRT. However, when comparing width, the XRT is slightly wider by a few millimeters, thanks to the WideMaxx suspension system that both cars utilize.
This difference in design enhances the handling of the XRT. A wider chassis with lower ground clearance generally outperforms a taller chassis with higher clearance when it comes to stability and control.

Looking at the middle of the Traxxas XRT and X-Maxx chassis, you’ll see a similar layout: the servo at the front, the ESC in the center, the motor at the rear, and batteries on the sides.
However, upon closer inspection, the XRT chassis stands out as being much cooler in appearance. Let me explain why.
The XRT’s chassis includes some added accessories and minor tweaks that make it more visually appealing.
First, the combination of gray and black creates a minimalist and clean design, which is easy on the eyes, right?
Another feature that makes the XRT chassis stand out is the motor. It’s not just the motor itself, but what’s sitting on top of it. Can you guess what it is?
It’s a heatsink, equipped with dual fans to keep the motor cool. It even resembles a V8 engine!
Both RC cars use the same battery configuration: 8s, with two 4s Lipo batteries on each side.

On the other hand, the XRT also features the Velineon® 1200XL Brushless Motor, VXL-8s™ waterproof electronic speed control, and a powerful 365 oz-in steering servo. Combined with its dual 4s Lipo batteries, the XRT can hit speeds exceeding 60 mph, making it significantly faster than the X-Maxx.

As you can see, the XRT has a higher top speed, making it the favorite in a straight-line drag race. However, speed isn’t the only deciding factor—handling, aerodynamics, weight, and acceleration all play a role in determining the winner.

Traxxas XRT VS X-Maxx Drag Race Off-Road
While the XRT may win on a smooth surface, off-road racing presents a different challenge, where the result might not be as clear-cut.
Off-roading demands a lot of power, control, and handling. Although the XRT is faster, lighter, and smaller than the X-Maxx, it may struggle to outperform the X-Maxx in off-road conditions.
When launching off jumps, for instance, the X-Maxx is more likely to perform a backflip in mid-air compared to the XRT. Why is that?
Traxxas XRT VS X-Maxx Tires
Tires are a crucial factor in RC car performance. The X-Maxx comes equipped with all-terrain tires, making it suitable for a variety of surfaces. In contrast, the XRT’s tires are designed more for racing than off-roading, which makes them firmer and less prone to ballooning.
Because the XRT’s tires don’t balloon, they can’t generate the rearward pull necessary for performing backflips during jumps. That said, the XRT’s tires are still excellent, featuring a new wide design from Traxxas that enhances performance. However, the X-Maxx tires are even wider and larger.

Traxxas XRT VS X-Maxx Handling
Good handling comes down to factors like ground clearance, chassis width, and tire size. Both the XRT and X-Maxx excel in these areas, although the X-Maxx has higher ground clearance. Both models are tough to flip or break, and they respond well to steering inputs.
However, the XRT has an advantage in handling due to its lower ground clearance and the WideMaxx suspension, which is wider than the X-Maxx’s. This gives it an edge in stability.
On the flip side, the X-Maxx compensates with its Self-Righting system, which allows it to flip back onto its wheels automatically with the push of a button—a feature the XRT lacks. So, while the XRT is less likely to flip, if it does, you’ll need to manually right it.
Despite these differences, both the XRT and X-Maxx are incredibly fun to drive and bash around with!
Traxxas XRT vs X-Maxx: Transmitter and Receiver
When it comes to the transmitter and receiver for the Traxxas XRT and X-Maxx, both models are equipped with the same components. They each feature the TQi™ 2-channel transmitter and a 5-channel micro receiver.
The main difference between the two is that the Traxxas X-Maxx includes a Self-Righting System, which the XRT lacks. Aside from that, the systems are identical.
While the current transmitter and receiver perform well, it would have been exciting to see a new version with enhanced features in the XRT. A more advanced model could have offered even greater improvements.

Traxxas XRT vs X-Maxx: Upgrades
The XRT features a redesigned chassis, which means many of its parts are different from the X-Maxx. However, some components, such as the shocks, are shared between the two models.
