Traxxas truly impressed me when they introduced the Traxxas BIGFOOT! Why? Because this RC monster truck pays tribute to a legendary piece of automotive history — one that your grandfather probably remembers!
But before we dive into the details of this awesome RC truck, let me ask you something: Have you ever heard of the Ford Bigfoot? If not, here’s a quick history lesson — the name “Bigfoot” comes from the very first monster truck ever built.
It all started when the owner of a Ford F-250 modified his pickup into what would become the iconic Bigfoot truck. Known for its massive power and dominating presence, it paved the way for the entire monster truck phenomenon.
Now, even if you can’t own the original, don’t worry — Traxxas has brought this legend to life with a powerful and detailed RC replica: the Traxxas BIGFOOT.
Let’s explore what makes this RC truck so special in the next few lines…
Traxxas BIGFOOT Design
The Body
If you’re already familiar with the legendary Ford BIGFOOT, you’ll instantly recognize the classic design replicated in the Traxxas BIGFOOT. The resemblance is so striking that, in a photo, you might not even be able to tell the real truck from the RC version!
Despite using some stickers, faux headlights, and the traditional body clips (which, admittedly, aren’t everyone’s favorite), Traxxas has done an impressive job crafting a body that truly captures the spirit of the original.
But they didn’t stop there — Traxxas went the extra mile by including authentic BIGFOOT branding, a custom license plate with the name “BIGFOOT,” and even the year the legend began. It’s these thoughtful details that elevate this RC truck from just another model to a true collector’s item.
This isn’t your average RC car — it’s a tribute for those who are genuinely passionate about monster trucks. And while the design stays true to its vintage roots, make no mistake — this truck still looks like a beast. It’s bold, aggressive, and ready to dominate!
Chassis & Performance of the Traxxas BIGFOOT
Under the hood, the Traxxas BIGFOOT shares its chassis with the well-known Traxxas Stampede — a platform praised for its excellent handling and stability. This solid foundation makes it a reliable performer, especially for off-road adventures.
However, there’s one catch: just like the Stampede, the BIGFOOT isn’t a 4×4 monster like the original full-sized version. Instead, it runs on a 2WD system. While that might be a letdown for some, there’s still plenty of power and capability packed into this RC truck.
The BIGFOOT is powered by a Titan® 12-turn 550 modified motor paired with a waterproof XL-5 electronic speed control. Together, they allow this beast to reach speeds of up to 30 mph (about 50 km/h) — pretty impressive for a monster truck of this size and build!
Some might argue that it could be faster, especially for such a well-branded model. And while that’s a fair point, speed isn’t everything when it comes to RC performance.
In fact, one of the BIGFOOT’s biggest strengths lies in its huge, rugged wheels. These allow it to climb, crawl, and crush obstacles with ease — a feature that many other Traxxas RCs just can’t match without aftermarket upgrades. With BIGFOOT, you get that capability right out of the box.
Another standout feature? It comes complete with a battery and charger — something not every RC truck includes. Similar to the LaTrax Teton I reviewed recently, the BIGFOOT includes a 7-cell NiMH battery, giving you around 15 minutes of runtime for bashing and exploring.
The included fast charger is also high-quality and convenient, allowing you to recharge quickly and get back to the action without hassle.
Traxxas BIGFOOT Parts & Upgrades
One of the best things about RC cars is how customizable they are—and the Traxxas BIGFOOT is no exception! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned hobbyist, upgrading your BIGFOOT can take your fun to the next level.
From suspension arms and motors to shocks, body shells, and caster blocks, there are countless ways to enhance your truck. You can even add extra headlights to make it look more aggressive and eye-catching!
The best part? These parts are affordable and easy to install, making upgrades accessible to everyone.
What I Don’t Like About the Traxxas BIGFOOT Monster Truck
While the BIGFOOT is an awesome RC truck overall, there are a few aspects I find disappointing.
1. Missing 4WD System
Given its monster truck styling, I was expecting a 4WD drivetrain. After all, BIGFOOT is known for being a powerhouse. While it shares the same chassis as the Traxxas Stampede, there is a 4×4 version of the Stampede available. So why not equip the BIGFOOT with that setup instead?
2. Headlights – All Style, No Function
The design details of the headlights are impressive, but unfortunately, they’re not functional. Personally, I would have loved to see working headlights straight out of the box.
That said, you can install your own! There’s a great method that darkeclipticheart shared on YouTube where he added custom headlights to his build. I mention this in more detail in my LaTrax Teton upgrades article—check it out!
3. No TSM (Traxxas Stability Management)
Surprisingly, the BIGFOOT doesn’t come with Traxxas Stability Management (TSM), a feature that helps improve handling and control. While some might miss the added stability, others actually prefer the raw, challenging driving experience.
For many, part of the fun is mastering an RC truck that doesn’t do all the work for you. No TSM? No problem—for the thrill-seekers!
Things I Loved About the Traxxas BIGFOOT
There’s a lot to appreciate about the Traxxas BIGFOOT monster truck. Here are some standout features that really impressed me:
Included Battery and Charger
This might seem like a small thing, but it’s a big deal—especially for beginners. Many Traxxas RC vehicles don’t come with a battery or charger, which means extra time and money spent figuring out what to buy.
With the BIGFOOT, everything you need to get started is right in the box. It’s convenient, beginner-friendly, and saves you the hassle of hunting for compatible gear.
High Ground Clearance
With an impressive 4 inches of ground clearance, the BIGFOOT can handle tough terrain with ease. You won’t have to worry about rocks damaging the chassis or getting stuck on rough trails. It’s built to cruise over obstacles like a true monster truck should.
Final Verdict
After spending time with the Traxxas BIGFOOT, I can confidently recommend it to anyone looking for a classic, aggressive, and beginner-friendly RC truck that doesn’t break the bank.
Of course, there’s always room for improvement—but overall, it’s a solid choice that delivers a lot of fun right out of the box.
