Traxxas Supra GT4 Design

A Stunning Body
Let’s be clear—this is, hands down, the best design Traxxas has ever created for an RC car. The level of detail is simply mind-blowing.
The Traxxas Supra GT4 features a sleek white body, just like the real car. But that’s not all—bold red and black accents give it a fierce and aggressive look.
Now, while the lights on this RC car are purely decorative (they don’t function), they’re crafted with such high resolution that they look incredibly realistic.
The front of the car is particularly striking, thanks to the front bumper. Traxxas nailed it with three grille-covered openings and a front splitter—details inspired by the real Supra. While these features are purely cosmetic on the Traxxas Supra GT4, they still add an authentic and aggressive touch.
The Rear
The rear design is where Traxxas truly shines.
The first thing you’ll notice is the large, fixed spoiler. Not only does it make the Supra GT4 look like a beast, but it also enhances the car’s aerodynamics by adding downforce.
Beneath the spoiler, you’ll find the iconic Toyota logo and the “Supra GT4” nameplate. The rear is further enhanced by realistic-looking taillights, packed with intricate details.
Next to each taillight, there’s a small air intake. While these are purely decorative, they’re a testament to Traxxas’ commitment to detail.
And the rear bumper? It’s a masterpiece. Unlike the rest of the body (which is one solid piece), the rear bumper is a separate component. This design choice not only adds depth but also makes the car stand out even more.
The bumper also houses large, dual exhausts and a central taillight reminiscent of a Ferrari—how cool is that?
Attention to Detail
Exploring this RC car is like discovering a treasure trove of surprises. From the gas tank detail behind the door to the various stickers and logos, Traxxas has thought of everything.
One major difference from other Traxxas models is the lack of body clips. That’s right—this Supra GT4 is clipless. Instead, Traxxas has introduced a convenient button system located beneath the front bumper. Press it, and the body easily detaches. The same goes for the rear!
This clipless design not only makes the car look cleaner but also simplifies maintenance. It’s a fantastic step forward by Traxxas.
Traxxas Supra Chassis

At first glance, you might assume that the 4-TEC 3.0 chassis on the Traxxas Supra GT4 is identical to the one on the Stingray. However, that’s not the case. There are some key updates and differences that set it apart.
What’s Different?
The most significant difference lies in the length of the chassis. The Traxxas Supra GT4 features a shorter chassis—16mm shorter, to be precise. This adjustment enhances both handling and overall performance, making this RC car even more agile on the track.
That said, many of the other dimensions remain unchanged. For example, the wheel diameter is still 73mm, providing wide, stable wheels that contribute to a solid grip and smooth performance.
Front Splitter & Bumper
One standout feature of this chassis is the front splitter and bumper, which are uniquely designed. Not only do they protect the internal components from potential crash impacts, but they also play a crucial role in improving aerodynamics.
Materials
While much of the chassis is constructed from durable, high-quality plastic, there’s no need to worry about strength or durability. Traxxas has ensured that this plastic can handle rough conditions. Other critical components, like the axles and center shaft, are made of steel for added toughness and reliability.
Eye-Catching Details
There are also some standout visual details that add to the Supra GT4’s appeal. For instance, the red oil-filled shocks not only look fantastic but also provide smooth and responsive suspension. Additionally, the fake brake discs have been meticulously designed, giving the car an authentic and high-end appearance.
Similarities to the Stingray
Despite the differences, this chassis does share some similarities with the Stingray. Both models feature a low center of gravity, which is critical for maximizing speed and maintaining stability during high-performance driving.
In fact, the overall structure of the chassis remains consistent between the Supra GT4 and the Stingray, and they share several parts, which we’ll explore further in the performance section of this review.
Traxxas Supra GT4 Performance
In this section, we’ll uncover what truly makes the Traxxas Supra GT4 a beast on the track. Trust me—it’s a monster in disguise!
Powertrain
The Traxxas Supra GT4 is equipped with a Titan™ 12T 550 modified motor, featuring an internal cooling fan, just like the Stingray. Paired with the High-Performance Waterproof XL-5™ Electronic Speed Control (ESC), this setup delivers incredible power and versatility.
The ESC comes with three driving modes:
- Sport Mode: For full-throttle fun and high-speed driving.
- Race Mode: Designed for competitive driving, eliminating reverse for better control.
- Training Mode: Perfect for beginners, reducing power output to help new drivers learn safely.
Switching modes is simple—just press the ESC button at specific intervals to toggle between them.
Speed
When you add a 2s LiPo battery to the mix, along with the optional 22-tooth pinion gear included in the box, the Traxxas Supra GT4 can hit a top speed of 30+ mph.
Now, you might wonder if this increased speed would cause the motor to overheat. Don’t worry—the built-in cooling fan is there to keep the motor’s temperature under control, so you can push the car to its limits without concern.
While the Supra GT4’s top speed is similar to that of the Stingray and Ford GT, the driving experience is completely unique. Speed alone doesn’t define an RC car’s performance. Factors like aerodynamics and handling play a massive role, and that’s where the Supra GT4 truly excels.
Handling
The handling of the Traxxas Supra GT4 is outstanding, and a few key factors contribute to its precision:
- Low center of gravity: This enhances stability and prevents rollovers during high-speed cornering.
- High-quality shocks: These oil-filled shocks provide smooth suspension, allowing for better traction and control.
- Wide wheels and tires: Not only do these wheels improve grip, but their aggressive design also adds to the Supra’s fierce appearance.
Speaking of the wheels, these are some of the best wheels Traxxas has ever designed. Their unique look, combined with their superior performance, sets them apart from the standard wheels found on other Traxxas RC cars. They’re not just functional—they’re a visual masterpiece!
Systems
No Self-Righting System
Like other 4-TEC 3.0 and 2.0 models, the Traxxas Supra GT4 doesn’t include a Self-Righting System—and for good reason. Cars like the X-Maxx or Hoss, which are prone to flipping due to their higher center of gravity, benefit from Self-Righting technology.
But for the Supra GT4, the low center of gravity does all the work, keeping the car stable and balanced. Simply put, Self-Righting isn’t necessary for a race-focused RC car like this.
TSM (Traxxas Stability Management)
The Supra GT4 also doesn’t come with TSM (Traxxas Stability Management), but here’s the thing: it doesn’t really need it. The car’s design and handling are so refined that even without TSM, it’s easy to control and a pleasure to drive.
That said, for those who prefer additional driving assistance, TSM could be a helpful feature. If you’ve used TSM with other Traxxas models, you know it aids in maintaining better control on slippery surfaces or during aggressive driving. Of course, like with other Traxxas vehicles, TSM can be turned off if you prefer complete manual control.
What I Don’t Like About the Traxxas Supra GT4
The Traxxas Supra GT4 is undoubtedly one of the best RC cars built on the 4-Tec 3.0 chassis. However, there are a few things that left me a bit disappointed.
No Functional Headlights
This was a letdown. Given how stunning the Toyota Supra’s real headlights are—especially their inner design—I was expecting Traxxas to replicate that beauty with functional lights. Sadly, they didn’t.
What’s even more surprising is that Traxxas has already proven they can do this. Just look at the Traxxas Ford GT—it had some of the best functional headlights on any RC car. If they had done the same with the Supra GT4, it would’ve elevated the model to a whole new level.
Same Old Motor
One of my biggest gripes with the 4-Tec lineup is how similar the performance is across different models. While each car may have a unique body and design, under the hood, it’s basically the same story.
The Supra GT4 shares the exact same motor and top speed as the Stingray. In fact, even the older 4-Tec 2.0 models can hit the same top speed!
That’s a letdown for enthusiasts looking for something new and exciting. Sure, the driving experience is solid—but let’s be honest, more speed equals more fun!
Even with these drawbacks, the Traxxas Supra GT4 is still my favorite among the 4-Tec 3.0 lineup.
What I Love About the Traxxas Supra GT4
It’s not all negatives. The Supra GT4 has some fantastic features that make it a standout RC car.
Built for Drifting
Despite being an all-wheel-drive beast, this RC car is a drift machine. It’s incredibly easy to drift, which makes for a fun and exciting driving experience.
One reason for this is the absence of the Traxxas Stability Management (TSM), which can sometimes interfere with drifting. Thankfully, it’s not included here.
On wet surfaces, drifting becomes even more fun—plus, the car is waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about a little moisture.
Powerful Motor Options
While the stock brushed motor is decent—especially when paired with a 2S LiPo battery and a 22-tooth pinion gear to hit 30 mph—it’s just the beginning.
For those wanting serious performance, an aftermarket brushless motor transforms the Supra GT4 into a whole new beast. Once you go brushless, say goodbye to that 30 mph limit—it’ll feel slow in comparison!
Traxxas Supra GT4 Upgrades
When it comes to aftermarket parts, the Traxxas Supra GT4 shares a lot in common with the rest of the 4-Tec 3.0 lineup. Since these models are built on the same chassis with only minor variations, most upgrades are interchangeable across the board.
So, if you’ve worked on upgrading a Traxxas Stingray, you’ll find the Supra GT4 just as easy to modify. The process is straightforward—and the possibilities are exciting!
Top Recommended Upgrades
- Brushless Motor Conversion
As mentioned earlier, swapping the stock brushed motor for a brushless motor is one of the best performance upgrades you can make. It significantly boosts speed, efficiency, and overall driving excitement. - Optional 22-Tooth Pinion Gear
This gear already comes in the box with your Supra GT4 and is definitely worth installing. It helps you unlock more speed and get closer to the car’s full potential—without spending a dime on extra parts. - Aluminum Upgrades
Swapping out plastic components for aluminum parts can greatly improve handling and durability. If you’re into aggressive driving or racing, these upgrades are a must to enhance control and protect your RC car from damage.
Final Thoughts
With the release of the Traxxas Supra GT4, Traxxas has answered the call of RC enthusiasts looking for something fresh. This model blends style, performance, and sporty appeal in a way that stands out from other RC cars.
While all 4-Tec 3.0 and even 2.0 models share similar performance specs, the Supra GT4 breaks the mold in terms of design and concept. It’s perfect for anyone who wants an RC car that not only performs well but looks stunning while doing it.
If you’re a fan of the Toyota Supra or just want an RC car that’s different from the rest, the Traxxas Supra GT4 is a fantastic choice.
